Born and raised in Beaumont Texas Larry began his interest in firearms when he was 10 and got his first shotgun. His Dad took him hunting and shooting on his Uncles farm and he loved it enough that he never missed a winter hunting and trapping. In High School Larry began carrying a .22 handgun in the woods when running a trap line. He found out he had a knack for shooting it as well, and sometimes better than a rifle. Larry’s involvement with guns was strictly hunting and trapping until he entered Law Enforcement in 1983 as a City Marshal for Bevil Oaks Texas and got into shooting handguns professionally and competitively. Larry moved to Kansas in 1987 and worked for several police Departments and continued competing and teaching firearms skills.
Larry is a certified Police Firearms Instructor through Kansas University Law Enforcement Training Division. KLETC has a rigorous firearms program. It not only incorporates firearms knowledge and shooting skills but is one of the few courses that develops the skills to be an exemplary instructor. Larry continued in his professional development becoming a Certified Field Training Officer teaching a wide array of subject matter to new recruits and developing new courses as the need arose. Larry’s classes on Officer Survival and Situational Awareness are hallmark of how to prevent violent encounters.
How many Concealed Carry instructors can say that what they teach has been upheld in a court of law? Larry is certified through the Kansas Attorney Generals Office to teach Kansas Concealed Carry/CCW classes. “It’s one thing to teach someone how to shoot its quite another to teach someone when to shoot.” Larry’s knowledge of Use of Force doesn’t just come from reading a book or pamphlet but from practical application. Larry has been involved in numerous use of force incidents, and each time his actions were held to be justified. How many instructors can say they defended their teachings in a court of law against a jury of their peers?
